Requirements and conditions for admission
Hungarian and foreign nationals who have a master's degree in a Hungarian or foreign master's programme, or who will have obtained it in the year of admission and who have the necessary knowledge of a foreign language for the study of the field of science, are eligible to apply for an organised doctoral programme. Proof of language proficiency may be furnished in particular by: an interview in a foreign language; or a publication by the doctoral candidate in a foreign language; or a complex language examination of at least intermediate level (B2) - or an equivalent nationalised language examination, a diploma in a language specialisation or a diploma in translation.
Admission procedure for doctoral studies, evaluation criteria:
Applicants for doctoral training must submit an application to the Doctoral School, indicating their chosen research topic, the supervisor and whether they wish to pursue their studies with public or private funding.
The call for applications, the list of documents to be submitted, the application form to be filled in and the deadline for submission of applications shall be published in the usual manner in the Faculty.
Admission to a doctoral programme is restricted to those who have a Master's degree and knowledge of at least one foreign language relevant to the field of study. Proof of language proficiency may be furnished in particular by: an interview in a foreign language; or a communication published by the doctoral candidate in a foreign language; or a complex language examination of at least intermediate level (B2) - or an equivalent nationalised language examination, a diploma in a language specialisation or a diploma in translation.
The admission procedure is carried out by an Admissions Committee appointed by the Doctoral Council and consisting of at least two members per Doctoral School.
The Admissions Committees shall consist of a Chairperson and at least one other member of the faculty who is a full professor of the Doctoral School concerned. The chairperson shall be the Head of the Doctoral School concerned or a member of the academic staff of the Doctoral School concerned, appointed by the Head.
In the admission procedure, candidates may obtain a total of 100 points. The scoring is the result of a consensus of the members of the Admissions Committee. If the 2 members of the Admission Committee cannot reach a consensus, a vote will be taken on the score. In the latter case, the final result will be the rounded-up average of the marks awarded from 1 to 100.
The Admissions Committee will use the admission procedure to determine the admission score:
- for applicants for publicly funded doctoral studies, during the oral admission procedure;
- in the case of applicants for doctoral studies not supported by public funding, on the basis of the application.
Based on the recommendation of the Admissions Committee, the Doctoral Council determines the result of the entrance examination. The Faculty Office will notify the candidate in writing of the result of the examination and the decision of the Doctoral Council within 30 days.
