Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay – independent expert in Strasbourg

Professor Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay – after serving her first mandate 2016-2020 – was appointed on 10th April 2024 by the Committee of Ministers for a second mandate of four years as an ordinary member of the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. 

It is the first legally binding multilateral instrument devoted to the protection of national minorities worldwide, and its implementation is monitored by the only international committee dedicated exclusively to minority rights: the Advisory Committee, consisting of 18 independent experts. The Framework Convention was opened for signature in February 1995, it is now in force in 39 states.
