International Criminal Law Conference Held in Cooperation Between Debrecen and Pécs

On February 13, 2026, the international conference titled “New Trends in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law after 2025” was held through the cooperation of the Faculties of Law of the University of Debrecen and the University of Pécs. The event brought together scholars and researchers from the cities of Pécs, Debrecen, Novi Sad, Valjevo, and Banja Luka, further strengthening academic ties in criminal law across Central and Southeastern Europe.

The plenary session of the conference was held in person, followed by two online academic panels for early-career researchers, organized with the involvement of the Pécs Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The program focused on current issues in criminal law and criminal procedure, including digital evidence, artificial intelligence, anti-corruption efforts, national security, and sanctions applied to juvenile offenders.

The conference was opened by Dean Prof. Dr. Ágoston Mohay, who emphasized the importance of international academic dialogue and the need to strengthen cooperation among universities in the region. The event was organized by Prof. Dr. István László Gál and Prof. Dr. Balázs Elek, whose work in shaping the program and engaging partner institutions contributed significantly to the conference’s high professional standards. The two afternoon online panels were chaired by Dr. Dávid Tóth (University of Pécs, Faculty of Law) and Dr. Andrea Noémi Tóth (University of Debrecen, Faculty of Law).

During the plenary presentations and panel sessions, participants discussed recent legal developments and emerging scholarly approaches in several countries, with particular attention to the impact of technological change on criminal law and the growing importance of international cooperation.

The event concluded with a joint dinner, where guests from different countries continued discussions in an informal setting and explored opportunities for further academic and educational collaboration, including plans for future joint projects and conferences.
