Faculty of Law joins international COST Action on data law

The Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs is participating in the international COST Action “Moving Data for Europe” (MoveDataMove, CA25140), launched in October 2026, through Dr Gergely László Szőke, associate professor and head of the Department of Technology Law and Energy Law. He represents Hungary on the Management Committee of the four-year collaboration.

The first in-person meeting, held in mid-October, marked the substantive start of the network’s joint work.
The project focuses on data access and portability rights and their practical implementation. The research network examines how user-driven data access can support research and innovation in Europe, what barriers limit the use of existing legal mechanisms, and how the regulatory framework can be further improved.

Bringing together experts with backgrounds in law and computer science from academia, regulatory authorities and civil society organisations, the collaboration reviews regulatory developments in the European Union, the United Kingdom and the Council of Europe. The participants aim to produce academic publications, policy recommendations, tools to support the teaching of data rights, and practical guidance on facilitating data access for research and innovation.
