About the University of Pécs

Dear Visitor,

I warmly welcome you to the website of the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs!

Legal education is the oldest and most traditional field of higher education in Pécs. The history of the University of Pécs dates back to 1367, when it became the first university in Hungary. From its inception, the university focused on legal education, specifically in the field of canon law, also known as church law. In the centuries that have passed since then, law and higher education have undergone fundamental transformations. Still, one thing has remained unchanged: legal education has always been an integral part of life in Pécs.

Our faculty conducts its educational activities within this rich tradition, while also embracing the challenges of the modern age. Respect for tradition and the transfer of classical legal thinking are now combined with modern educational methodological approaches, practice-oriented courses, professional language training, and knowledge of contemporary legal areas. All this provides our students with the knowledge and skills essential for high-level practice in this profession, because legal work is a profession in the noblest sense of the word. The Faculty offers training at all levels of higher education, often in the form of distance learning as well.

The PTE ÁJK attaches special importance to talent development. The scientific student circles, the professional college, and other student organizations actively support the professional development of young people. Our students regularly achieve excellent results in national and international competitions, of which we are justly proud.

The scientific activity of our faculty is also decisive: our lecturers and researchers are active participants in the Hungarian legal discourse and publish their research results on the international stage.

The community provides the fullness of university life. At our faculty, a supportive and constructive relationship between students and lecturers, based on mutual respect, creates the basis for quality education, inspiring scientific work and meaningful community programs.

Based on all this, and considering the favorable graduate career tracking data, we can confidently state that a law degree from Pécs is valuable. This is confirmed by both the labor market and social recognition.

The Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Pécs is a pivotal institution in Hungarian higher education, with a history spanning several centuries. The goal of the faculty collective is to ensure that these perspectives are relevant not only to the past but also to the future.
