On 25th June 2026, the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs hosted the international conference "Police Science in Practice" (Hungarian title: A Rendészettudomány Művelése).
The event also marked the 25th anniversary of the St. Ladislaus Day Conference. St. Ladislaus, the chosen patron and protector of border guards, has long symbolized order, service to the common good, unwavering integrity, and humanity. Since its inception, the conference has aimed not only to preserve these traditions but also to provide a professional and academic forum for scholars and practitioners of police science.
The anniversary conference featured a highly diverse programme covering historical, legal, criminological, and criminalistics-related aspects of policing. Presentations addressed a wide range of topics, including migration, the protection of public spaces, fingerprint examination, artificial intelligence, international cooperation in criminal law, and asset recovery. According to the organizers, police science has evolved far beyond the traditional domain of law enforcement, encompassing numerous legal, social, and scientific disciplines.
The conference's English-language international panel entitled "Policing the Digital Frontier: Technology, Online Criminality, and Emerging Threats." welcomed speakers from several countries, including Vietnam, Serbia, Slovakia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
For the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs, the conference represented not only a significant professional event but also an important institutional milestone. The international participation and the discussion of current issues in police science contribute to strengthening the Faculty's academic profile and international standing.
Edited versions of the presentations delivered in Hungarian will be published in Volume 28 of the Pécsi Határőr Tudományos Közlemények, while papers presented in the international section will appear in the journal Police Studies.
